Beware of Trademark Payment Scams
This is a reminder that many private companies, with no affiliation to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), attempt to get trademark owners to pay for “publication” of their trademarks on private databases of for the preparing of trademark responses. The USPTO goes in depth discussing this issue: USPTO Cautions About Misleading Notices. See the images below for notices that our clients recently received. If you look at the highlighted language of the WTMR notice, you see that WTMR is not associated with any governmental agency and that payment of $980 results only in your mark being included in WTMR’s database. WTP’s notice provides similar language. Do not be tricked into paying these. When you apply for a trademark, your application is public and that is why you receive these sort of solicitations.
